Robert H. Clark House
317 North Main Street
The Robert H. Clark family was living in Indianola during the devastating storm of 1875. After the great storm, Clark came to Victoria, staying at the Hall Hotel for a month, then the Ingram Hotel for a few more months until his residence was completed on North Main Street. As soon as transportation was available after the storm, Mr. Clark brought his wife, Pauline, and their children to Victoria. Mrs. Clark never returned to Indianola, even for a visit. The home that they built was similar to the one in Indianola.
The Robert H. Clark House is the finest surviving example of Greek Revival architecture in Victoria. The house has a five-bay symmetrical east elevation. It has a prominent full height porch in the center bay composed of two-story paired square molded cap columns. The particularly impressive portico, entry and center passage reinforce the symmetry of the era.
