T. M. O’Connor House

303 South Bridge Street

On the west side of historic Plaza del Mercado stands the home of pioneer cattleman, Thomas Marion O’Connor, which was completed in 1889. The 300 block of South Bridge Street easily qualifies as one of the most beautiful in all of “Old Victoria.” This city block faces Market Square, which was the heart of Victoria for the first twenty-five years of its history.

By August 7, 1888, Jules Leffland had drawn up the plans and specifications for a palatial residence. for O’Connor. Begun in August 1888, the house was completed by the end of January 1889 a total of approximately five months. From Leffland’s bid book there is a complete record of the work done on the residence. The T. M. O’Connor House was the first new house designed by Leffland in Victoria.
