Lander-Hopkins House
202 W Power

Frank Blair Lander came to Victoria in November 1896 from Missouri to establish the Farmers and Merchants Bank. He was the cashier there until it was absorbed by the Victoria National Bank in December 1914. At that time he became the vice president of that institution.

Lander’s first wife, Lela McVean, died in Victoria in 1903. One of their daughters, Kathleen, married John J. Welder, III. Descendants of this marriage live in Victoria today.

In San Antonio, on November 17, 1907, Frank Lander married Lillian Winston Dilliard, of Richmond, Texas. He brought his bride to Victoria. In 1910, Lander had well-known local architects James Hull and Charles Praeger collaborate on the design of a grand asymmetrical Neoclassical Revival house. The house was built in 1911 for $6,000.
