Federal Building and Post Office

210 E Constitution

The old Federal Building and Post Office opened for business on January 1, 1913. One of Victoria’s finest public buildings, it was used by the U.S. Government until the new building was completed in the early 1960s. Purchased by Frels Theaters in 1965, the building served as general offices for Frels Theatres, Inc.,Frels Real Estate Corporation and Rubens Frels Pipe Organs. Charles Placker operated a barber shop in the old postmaster’s office on the first floor. You will often see this building today as a backdrop for graduation and wedding photographs. For birders in the area, one of downtown Victoria’s pair of hawks has nested on a downspout of this building for years. You can watch the babies learn to fly between the building and the trees across the street.
